Why are the bells ringing?

The oldest bell in our tower dates back to 1611.  It would have been rung on its own to signal a church service was about to begin.  We try and maintain this tradition by ringing for as many services as possible.

4 bells were added in 1897 giving us a ring of 5 and in 1998 the bells were rehung and an extra treble was added to give us the ring of 6 we have today.

Bells can be rung for all types of reasons, special events, and local and national celebrations.  Weddings, funerals, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Village fetes, School Services, The Olympics, Christmas.  Whatever the event we'll be happy to ring, feel free to contact us.

Practicing is essential, and we are lucky enough to get a well attended weekly practice, on Monday night at 8pm. The average person takes 6 to 12 months to learn to handle a bell (depending on how often they practice),  learning never stops, and once you get 'the bug' you'll find yourself visiting many towers, ringing at 6, 8, 10 and 12 bell towers.

It is a service to the church (although you don't have to be religious) and community, but above all, it's a skill, it exercises both your body and brain, a great hobby for anyone or family whatever age to enjoy.  We can never have enough ringers, you'll be more than welcome just to turn up on a Monday night, or please contact us.
